PharmaS marks World Asthma Day in Croatia

ZAGREB, 8th May, 2018 – The Croatian pharmaceutical company PharmaS marked World Asthma Day on Friday in its factory in Popovača under the slogan “SO EASY…

World Asthma Day is an annual event marked around the world and this is the first year PharmaS joined the public health initiative to increase asthma awareness in Croatia.

PharmaS has taken a big step forward in the respiratory drugs market in Croatia and in improving asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) awareness in the medical community and among its employees, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, proper monitoring and regular asthma review and medication adherence.

Asthma, as a chronic inflammatory lung disease, is a public health issue and there are over 200,000 people in Croatia with asthma. The prevalence of asthma is increasing worldwide and it is becoming a major medical issue. Experts are expecting further growth in the number of people with airway diseases, especially in urban areas.

This global health issue and response, prevention and control strategies were addressed by pulmonary disease specialist Andrea Dugac Vukić, Sc.D., head of the Institute for Respiratory Insufficiency and Diseases of Pulmonary Circulation, KBC Zagreb, Jordanovac Clinic for Lung Diseases.

Conclusions are that there is a clear need to raise public awareness on timely diagnosis, monitoring and regular asthma and COPD review in Croatia. Regular check-ups and early diagnosis of asthma and COPD and medication adherence reduce complications and comorbidity.

The gold standard for asthma diagnosis is spirometry – the most important pulmonary function test. On the occasion of World Asthma Day PharmaS has organised spirometry and pulmonary check-ups for all PharmaS’s guests and employees by pulmonary disease specialist Tatjana Jalušić Glunčić, Sc.D., head of the Department for Pulmonary Rehabilitation, KBC Zagreb, Jordanovac Clinic for Lung Diseases, as part of asthma and COPD prevention.
